San Diego Radio: MLB Padres Moving To KBZT

Beginning next season, listeners will have to tune the dial to a new frequency. The Padres are moving from Broadcast Company of the Americas' The Mighty 1090 AM to Entercom's KBZT 94.9 FM.

The modern-rock station's slogan: "It's About the Music."

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Entercom will hold the Padres' rights from 2017 through 2021. The five-year deal was announced by CEO David Field during the company's quarterly earnings call Monday morning.
"I am pleased to report that we have entered into an agreement to become the flagship radio broadcaster for the San Diego Padres," Field said. "Starting in 2017 and continuing through 2021, our FM 94.9 in San Diego will be the home for all the Padres games. FM 94.9 will retain its alternative rock format offering our listeners a unique combination of great music, sports and local personalities."
Field said 94.9 FM will retain its modern-rock format.

The Padres declined comment. Last January, the club reached a one-year extension to keep The Mighty 1090 as its flagship through the 2016 season.

Entercom also has radio rights deals with the Boston Red Sox, Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics. Last week, the company said WEEI-FM in Boston had extended its deal with the Red Sox through the 2023 season. WEEI has carried Red Sox broadcasts since 1995.
