Ft.Wayne Radio: Kidney Surgery For WOWO's Pat Miller

Best wishes go out to WOWO 1190 AM / 107.5 FM talk personality Pat Miller.  He is expected to go off the air for several weeks beginning in May to undergo kidney surgery.

“Somewhere around a decade ago, we were made aware of the fact that I had what has been described as chronic kidney disease,” Miller announced March 25 on his talk show, the Pat Miller Program on WOWO Radio. “I’m to the point now that I need to have a transplant.”

Miller’s condition progressed into stage 5 chronic kidney failure where his kidney function is down to about 12 percent, he said.

His symptoms include weakness, anemia, urination changes, sleep difficulty, itchy skin, frequent nausea and muscle cramps.

A donor stepped up to provide him a kidney.

“It is a gift that they are offering to me that I would have never asked for,” he said.

He also credited his wife as a source of strength in keeping the disease in check for as long as possible.

The transplant procedure is scheduled for May 24. Miller expects to be out for six to eight weeks.

During his time off, WOWO’s news director, Ryan Wrecker, and others will fill in on the show.
In the weeks leading up to his procedure, Miller stressed he’ll stay on point with issues the show covers and doesn’t want to bog it down with constant discussions about his disease.
