Boston Radio: WMEX Adds Shortsleeve and McNamara

WMEX 1510 AM has announced the addition of news veteran Joe Shortsleeve to the programming roster. He’ll be joined by strategist Diane McNamara for a live, Monday-Friday show from 10 am – Noon tentatively titled “Shortsleeve & Mac”. They’ll begin broadcasting Monday, February 1st and will replace the station’s current offering of Boston Herald Radio’s “Morning Meeting”.

“After more than 30 years in television news, I’m thrilled to be at a point in my life where I can try things I’ve always wanted to do. Working in radio is right up there. I’ll have more time to share the pressing stories of the day while crossing over to other avenues of our culture that don’t fall into hard news.  We have a definite mission to help communities and neighborhoods too – to have a positive impact on people's lives. Maybe it's as simple as calling City Hall and helping a listener get their street plowed,” says Shortsleeve.

Joe Shortsleeve is best known for his work as an Emmy-award winning journalist, investigative reporter and television anchor in Boston. For the past decade, he served as Chief Correspondent and iTEAM reporter for WBZ-TV4.

Joe Shortsleeve’s co-host Diane McNamara owns Fire it Up, PR, a Boston-based communications firm specializing in entertainment and lifestyle brands. She has worked on the last four Olympic Games representing both the USOC and NBC Olympics; multiple TV and movie projects and international lifestyle brands. But it’s her work as a political strategist and commentator that has moved to the forefront of her business in the last few years.

“The lines between entertainment and politics have become more and more blurred which makes for an exciting time to talk about how our celebrity culture overlaps with our political culture,” says McNamara. “Joe and I each bring something very unique to the conversation which will certainly make for compelling radio,” she adds.
