Report: Netflix Dominates Internet

A new report reveals Netflix to be the leader in peak traffic in North America, with a slight increase from an earlier study, according to The Daily Mail.

It also shows how people would rather watch Netflix than go through the hassle of downloading pirated content.

While Netflix increased in popularity, the study also found that the once popular BitTorrent is steadily declining as streaming becomes increasingly common.

The site now makes up less than 4.4 per cent of total peak traffic.

Overall, video and audio streaming dominated downstream traffic across the region, accounting for more than 70 per cent of peak period downstream bytes.

The Sandvine Global Internet Phenomena Report found that Netflix is responsible for 37.1 per cent of downstream traffic, just above where it sat earlier this year, at 36.5 per cent.

Other streaming services, referred to as real-time entertainment in the report, also increased in traffic since the previous study.
