Albuquerque Radio: KKOB-AM, KOB-FM Help Community Mourn

A week ago, Albuquerque made national news when a 4-year-old girl was shot and killed in a road rage incident. Cumulus N/T KKOB 770 AM and Top40 KOB 93.3 FM were there to help the city process this senseless crime.

Albuquerque Police Chief Gordon Eden called in to 770 KKOB-AM when Morning Show Host Bob Clark was talking about the story with listeners, who phoned in wall-to-wall to share their anger, pain and frustration.

The show speaks volumes about 770 KKOB's relationship with its audience and its importance in the Albuquerque community.

Cumulus Albuquerque AM Operations Manager Pat Frisch said:  "770 KKOB is a vital part of New Mexico and that could not have been more evident when Albuquerque Police Chief Gordon Eden called in and said, 'We know that 770 is heard around the Southwest and we need your help in tracking down truckers who may have witnessed the road rage shooting.'"

The following morning, KOB-FM's Carlos & Kiki responded with real and raw emotion going wall-to-wall with heartfelt calls from the community ranging from topics including: "Why we need to hug our kids" to "Tips on the shooter"--  and reached out to the family who lost their child to share the GoFundMe account with their listeners. The GoFundMe me account raised an astounding  $40,000 before noon, and ultimately raised more than $66,000. The media responded quickly with news coverage of the huge response to Carlos & Kiki's outpouring of support from their listeners. Wednesday, a person of interest was arrested and 770 KKOB broke the story during the afternoon show.
