El Paso Radio: KissFM's Patty Campos Get Audition For 'The Voice'

Patricia Valencia a.k.a Patty Campos
Everything is falling into place for Patricia Valencia. On Saturday, the Las Cruces native boarded a plane in El Paso, bound for Los Angeles where she has a private audition, singing in front of producers for the NBC show, "The Voice."

"I never really had an audition tape," Valencia told the Las Cruces Sun-News. "And now I'm having a private audition for 'The Voice.'"

For nearly 10 years, Valencia has worked in radio, the past five years as the afternoon drive-time DJ on El Paso's KSSI 93.1 KissFM. On Kiss, she goes by the name Patty Campos.

Having lived in the spotlight for almost a decade, Valencia has amassed a large social media following. She has long reached Facebook's limit of 5,000 friends. A Facebook fan page has nearly 2,300 fans. She has nearly 2,500 Instagram followers, more than 1,300 Twitter followers, and a strong following on Snapchat as well. As far as media figures go, she's one of the most followed personalities in the region.

Radio has also helped her develop a stage presence, which she hopes will serve her well in her audition. It's all about authenticity, she said.

She said that she wasn't allowed to choose any songs with a slow tempo, or anything more than 10 years old.

"I tried to pick songs that would showcase the different ranges of my voice, and the different ways that I can sing," she said. "I chose Meghan Trainor's 'Lips Are Movin,' Emeli Sandé's 'Next To Me,' Alicia Keys' 'Superwoman' and The Script's 'Breakeven.'"

She's hoping the songs will impress the producers enough to earn her a spot on the show. But no matter what happens, she says she's grateful for the opportunity.

Brad Dubow, general manager of Townsquare Media-El Paso which owns Kiss FM, said he's wishing her well, and that he feels she's got what it takes to connect with an audience.

"Patty is an awesome person and a hardworking talent. Be it her on-air work, her social media communication, or her ability to perform the national anthem in front of thousands, Patty connects with her audience on a regular basis," Dubow said. "Everyone at Kiss FM is extremely proud of her and is wishing her the best with this exciting opportunity."
