CBS Radio News VP Harvey Nagler To Be Honored

The editorial board of TALKERS magazine has named longtime radio news executive Harvey Nagler, VP of CBS Radio News, the recipient of the publication’s 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award will be presented to Nagler during the Awards Ceremony at the forthcoming Talkers New York 2015 convention on Friday, June 12.

Nagler, a native of Brooklyn, New York began his distinguished career in 1966 as a reporter for WCTC-AM, New Brunswick, NJ upon graduating from Rutgers University with a degree in American History.  He was named Vice President, CBS Radio News in January, 1998.  In this position, he is responsible for CBS News’ radio operations worldwide, including news gathering and programming and its relationship with its thousands of affiliated stations around the country.

During his tenure at CBS Radio News, the network has won dozens of national and international awards. He was chosen Radio News Executive of the Year in 2006 and 2008 in a poll taken by Radio & Records magazine.  In 2010, CBS Radio News won the coveted Edward R. Murrow “Overall Excellence Award” from the Radio Television Digital News Association for the fourth year in a row.  In March, 2010, Nagler was honored with the RTNDA’s First Amendment Service Award, which is presented to a person of distinction who works in an off-air, management capacity.  In 2014, he received the Radio Television Digital News John F. Hogan Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes an individual’s contributions to the journalism profession and freedom of the press.  Prior to joining CBS Radio News,

Nagler was director, news and programming for WCBS-AM, New York “Newsradio 88,” (1987-97). During that time, Nagler developed and implemented several practices which have since been adopted or imitated by hundreds of stations across the country, including the slogan, “traffic and weather, together on the ‘eights’” and “guaranteed weather,”
