Elroy Smith
SummitMedia Group/Greenville-Spartanburg has announced that Elroy Smith has been named Operations Manager for the cluster.

He'll oversee programming for Urban WJMZ 107.3 FM Jamz, Top40 WHZR 98.1 FM Hot, Adult Hits W249CB 97.7 ChuckFM and Alternative W247CB X98.5 FM.

Smith's resume shows more than 30 years’ programming experience in markets such as Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia.  He sstated, “This is a great day for me. The decision to join SummitMedia in Greenville SC is exciting and marks a new chapter in my radio career. I look forward in overseeing all four brands including market leader 107.3 JAMZ and Top 40/Rhythmic giant HOT 98.1. Thanks to
SVP/Programming Bill Tanner, VP/Market Manager Karolyn Mulvaney and National PD John Olsen for entrusting in me to lead the programming department. I cannot wait to join such a wonderful team of committed broadcasters.”

“It’s a great thrill for us to acquire such an exceptional programmer as Elroy,” SVP/Programming Bill tanner said. “We know he’ll take our Greenville properties to new heights, and we all look forward to learning from his talent and experience.”

The new job in South Carolina for Smith, ends a radio venture in Chicago.

Last summer, Calvary Radio Network agreed to sell W264BF, a 2-watt radio translator with a construction permit to increase to 10 watts, for an incredible $4.6 million. The purchaser was to be Integrity Radio Communications, operated by former Chicago radio programming great, Elroy Smith. That deal is not going to close, according to Chicagoland Radio&Media.

Smith and Integrity Radio Communications plans for this translator were to simulcast on W264BF/100.7 FM one of WILV-FM's (now WSHE-FM) HD Radio stations, which Integrity Radio Communications would take over via an LMA. It was to be an adult-targeted, Urban-focused station.

Smith tells CRM that "Calvary Radio Network and I have mutually agreed to terminate the pending sale of translator W264BF, Chicago."
