CNN Suspends Broadcasting In Russia

A statement from CNN International parent Turner International says it is "assessing its distribution options for CNN in Russia in light of recent changes in Russian media legislation."

"We are bringing our existing distribution relationships to an end while we do that," it added.

A law limiting foreign ownership of media to 20 percent came into force last month, threatening some of Russia's most respected independent media outlets.

CNN is seen in Russia via cable and satellite.

The statement said the network's news operation in Moscow was "unaffected."

It offered no timetable, but Russian media reported that broadcasts would cease as of December 31.

The move comes with the Kremlin increasingly at odds with independent news media, especially over coverage of the crisis in Ukraine.
