Mount Wilson FM has flipped KBOQ fron SoftAC yo Classic Hits branding as “Q103.9“. The move brings the Classic Hits format back to the market for the first time since now-sister 97.9 KYZZ flipped to Sports in 2012. The new format is focusing on music from the mid-1960s through mid-1980s.

The shake-up was part of a move by Mapleton, also based in Los Angeles, to increase its holdings in the Monterey market. The sale of KBOQ cleared the way for Mapleton's purchase of the soft rock station.

Mapleton also owns local stations Rock KPIG 107.5 FM, Adult Hits KKHK 95.5 FM, Top40 KCDU 101.7 FM and Classic Rock KHIP 104.3 FM.

Mount Wilson FM also becomes more of a local player with its new purchase. Its local cluster also includes KYZZ 97.9 fm and translators at 95.1 FM and 106.7 FM, KMZT 95.1 FM (translator) and KNRY 1240 AM and 95.9 FM (Big Sur).

Among the top 10 local stations, Clear Channel has five, Entravision has three and Mount Wilson has one with country station KYZZ.
