R.I.P.: Former WNYC Morning Host Steve Post

Steve Post
Steve Post, long-time morning host on WNYC and one of New York radio's all-time great contrarians, died Sunday.

He was 70, according to the NY Daily News.

He had earlier recovered from colon and lung cancer.

He hosted "Morning Music," a now-defunct classical show on WNYC from 1982 until 2001. He returned to WNYC in 2002 to host "The No Show," a quirky combination of music and commentary that defied almost every programming rule of radio.

His interest in radio started before he was a teenager, he said in his official WNYC biography. He would record pretend radio shows on his father's tape recorder, creating personalities such as Paige Turner.

He started his full-time radio career in the 1960s at WBAI, the Pacifica station noted for its assortment of mostly progressive hosts who often valued passion over traditional radio presentation.
