Emmy Awards: And The Winners Are...

Monday night's (August 25th) 66th Emmy Awards marked the first time the show had been held on a Monday since 1976. The ceremony was hosted by Seth Meyers who seemed to focus many of his jokes on network TV versus cable and Netflix.

The evening's big winners were Modern Family and Breaking Bad. Modern Family took home awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy series for Ty Burrell and Outstanding Comedy Series for the fifth consecutive year. Breaking Bad nabbed trophies for Outstanding Drama as well as acting awards for Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, and Aaron Paul.

Other big winners included Jim Parsons who took home his fourth Emmy for his role on The Big Bang Theory, Julia Louis-Dreyfus won her third consecutive award as a lead actress on Veep, and Alisson Janney won two trophies -- one for her role on Mom and another for guest stint on Masters of Sex.
Sherlock scored three wins. Neither Benedict Cumberbatch nor Martin Freeman was on hand to grab their awards but writer Steven Moffat was on hand to graciously accept his.

Sara Bareilles performed "Smile" during the In Memoriam before Billy Crystal's introduced a video montage of the work of the late Robin Williams.

RED CARPET:

Good
  • Laverne Cox - showed off that she could rock more than just a prison jumpsuit in a white Mark Bauer gown custom made to fit her body.
  • Christina Hendricks - the redhead wore a red Marchesa dress with some gold jewelry. The look was inspired by Indian sarees.
  • Hayden Panettiere - maternity clothing can be tricky but the silver Lorena Sarbu gown was sexy and stylish with or without a baby bump.
Bad
  • Julie Bowen - it was hard to tell what the print on the dress was supposed to be and having it wrap around her neck just didn't work for her.
  • Mayim Bialik - the blue lace gown made her look matronly.
