FL Radio: Four Tallahasse Stations Get Local Owner

Four Tallahassee radio stations have come under single, local ownership beneath the umbrella of Red Hills Broadcasting, according to tallahassee.com.

The cluster, including FM channels Adult Hits WANK 99.9 FM, Top40 WHTF 104.9 FM, Country WWOF 103.1 FM and Classic Rock WQTL 106.1 FM, was sold to local investors earlier this year in a purchase from previous owner Opus Media Partners of New York City.

The new owners say they will continue to provide the same music while its operations will keep revenue and decision-making local.

"This is the first time there has been a locally owned cluster in 20 years," said Red Hills Vice President Bradford Lewis. "What we like about it and what's nice about local advertisers and listeners is it's local decision making, locally owned and operated."

Hank Kestenbaum, the voice of Hank 99.9, has been the general manager of the station group for eight years and will remain as the brains of the operation.

Part of that evolution, especially being locally owned, is to provide unique advertising opportunities to the region, not always the case with radio media.

"The big difference is, if you advertise with Red Hills Broadcasting the money you spend stays in Tallahassee," Kestenbaum said. "It's a 100 percent locally owned company and that unlike any other major media outlet in town."
