Court Orders Handed to Casey Kasem's Wife

KING 5 News Seattle is reporting that Casey Kasem's wife and her attorneys were delivered a court order from California Friday afternoon, giving his daughter Kerri Kasem expanded power over his healthcare.

The "AT/Top 40" radio personality has been staying in Kitsap County with his wife, Jean, and a family friend, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office. Deputy Scott Wilson, spokesperson for the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office, confirms they were delivered the court order early Friday afternoon.

The order says "Casey Kasem lacks the capacity to give informed consent to any form of medical treatment because he is unable to respond knowingly and intelligently regarding medical treatment."

It gives Kerri Kasem, his daughter from a prior marriage, "the power to exercise exclusive authority" to make health care decisions on Kasem's behalf.

It also says she's authorized to retain one or more unarmed licensed private investigators to assist her in implementation of the court order.

Kerri Kasem's spokesperson confirms she is in Washington state to get her father.

Since Kerri Kasem's court order comes from a civil court in California, Kitsap County authorities only had to serve the papers to Jean Kasem. It would take an order from a Washington Superior Court to give deputies authority to take Kasem out of the home.
