SC Radio: Apex To Acquire Oldies WHHL

Apex Broadcasting Inc. has agreed to buy WLHH104.9 FM The Surf in the Hilton Head Island area in a deal valued at $682,500, according to filings with the Federal Communications Commission.

The seller is Low Country Radio LLC.

Apex also is acquiring the rights to sell airtime on and otherwise operate WHHL under a separate agreement. The financial terms of that deal with Low Country Radio weren't disclosed.

The CEO of Hilton Head-based Low Country Radio is former Charleston radio personality C.J. Jones. He was part of the "CJ & Buzz" morning show in the 1970s and 1980s on WTMA 1250 AM and on WCSC 1390 AM.

Apex Broadcasting is headquartered on Clements Ferry Road and is owned by Dean Pearce.

It operates five Charleston, SC FM stations. Apex also has several stations in the Florida panhandle serving the Destin and Fort Walton Beach markets.
