Chicago Radio: C-C-Changes At WPPN, Maxima

Major changes have taken place at some of Univision's Chicago radio stations this month, according to CRM.

The biggest changes have come to WPPN 106.7 FM. On March 7th, the station changed its branding from Pasion 106.7 to Amor 106.7. (Translated in English, they switched from "Passion" to "Love.")

Along with the branding change is a tweak in its musical playlist. WPPN-FM is now a Spanish Hot AC format. While it still plays favorites from 1980s and 1990s, it also now plays slightly more contemporary music than Pasion 106.7 did, including songs that are more upbeat and brighter.

The most obvious change occurred on March 14th when a new morning show appeared. Now heard each weekday morning from 6:00am-10:00am is "El Show de Omar y Argelia" ("The Omar and Argelia Show"). That show is a ratings-leading program for Univision in Los Angeles (KLVE-FM) and is now syndicated.

WPPN-FM has released morning show host Cesar Osmar, a Chicago radio veteran of well over a decade.

WVIX 93.5 FM/WVIV 103.1 FM, best known as Maxima 93.5 & 103.1, also has a fairly new logo, although its branding and Latino CHR musical direction have stayed the same. The biggest change is in mornings.

"The Enrique Santos Show," which used to air on the bi-signal, bilingual music station each weekday morning from 6:00am-10:00am, is now gone. The show had been heard on WVIV-FM/WVIX-FM since August 2012. Although the show was produced and syndicated from Miami, Enrique Santos is a Chicago native.

The show that replaced Enrique Santos on WVIX-FM/WVIV-FM is Univision's own "Uforia Nation." Based out of Los Angeles, "Uforia Nation" combines music and pop culture content for many of Univision's hit music stations' morning programming. Other markets with "Uforia Nation" besides Chicago include Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Fresno.
