Reno Radio: KTHX Collects CDs, DVDs For Troops

Malayna Kerton
U.S. troops serving in Afghanistan will be able to enjoy a little rock ‘n’ roll and some movies in their down time, thanks to the listeners of the Reno radio station, KTHX 100.1 FM, The X.

According to rgj.com, more than 3,000 music CDs and movie DVDs were collected in the station’s first-ever “Give Our Troops an X-Perience” drive and shipped to Afghanistan last week for distribution to the troops.

Midday disc jockey Malayna Kerton spearheaded the drive, the first for the 23-year-old radio station but a program she was familiar with after her previous work in country radio.

“At first, I wasn’t sure it would work on The X but thought it was worth a try,” Kerton said. “Plus, I convinced (morning disc jockey) Dead Air Dave to give me all the CDs he had on his office shelves, which was about 500, so I knew we’d have something to send.”

The month-long drive was a hit with listeners from the start, Kerton said.
