Chicago Area Radio: Changes At WERV-FM & WRXQ-FM

The afternoon and evening line-ups at two suburban NextMedia rock radio stations -- WERV-FM 95.9 The River Aururoa, IL & WRXQ-FM Q-Rock 100.7 Coal City, IL -- will look dramatically different starting Monday.

Chicago Radio & Media reports, starting March 18th, PD Zander moves from WRXQ-FM Q-Rock  to WERV-FM the River. He will work the similar afternoon shift of 3:00pm-7:00pm. This pushes that station's current afternoon host. Chicago radio legend Mitch Michaels, into the evenings.  Michaels, who has been on the air locally for over 41 years, will now "light up the night" as he moves to weeknights from 7:00pm-Midnight.

Chicago radio veteran Leslie Harris, who has been working evenings for over the last two years, now gets moved to weekends and fill-in shifts. Harris has been with the station since 2007 and working in Chicago area radio since 1982. WERV-FM's Scott Mackay and Danielle Tufano remain in their morning and midday roles respectively.

In a memo to the staff talking about these changes, WERV-FM General Manager Scott Kosak said:
"These adjustments will make The River an even stronger radio station by retaining all of the people who make The River as impactful as it is in our listening area, and we will continue to focus on continuing to spread that (over) the entire area we serve."

Zander will also remain PD of Q-Rock, but his on-air vacancy will be filled with WRXQ-FM's midday host Dawn Avello is promoted up to afternoon drive, working the five hour shift of 2:00pm-7:00pm. She has been with the station since September 2011.

Taking over middays will be a DJ who goes by the on-air name of simply "Schneider." He will work the weekday hours of 10:00am-2:00pm. WRXQ-FM's Elwood and Crazy Ray remain in their morning and evening roles respectively.
