No Joking: Kansas City To Get CBS Sports Affiliate

CBS Sports Radio debuts January 2, 2013 on a translator currently airing an all-comedy format, known at "Funny 102.5 FM".

Cumulus will flip its 250 watt FM translator to “Sports Radio 102.5 The Fan.”

The station will air the new CBS Sports Radio 24/7 while becoming the market's Only FM Sports outlet.

The company says it is "excited about exploring partnerships with local major league sports franchises and major college teams to expand our sports portfolio in Kansas City."

Operations Manager Chris Hoffman added, "We will localize the station through hourly local sports updates and traffic reports, plus we are planning to integrate localized programming and partnerships to cover a wide variety of local sports topics."

"The development of the CBS Sports Network in partnership with Cumulus Media Networks is changing the Sports Radio Broadcast landscape across the country and Cumulus Kansas City is excited to be a part of it!" said Senior VP/GM Mark Sullivan. "We saw a real opportunity in the Kansas City market to give Sports fans a station that is really for the fans."

  2. It's more of a shoddy ruse. There are 2 24hr radio stations on the AM dial. They are very popular. People can listen there. Getting rid of the 24/7 comedy radio station *whilst other cities are keeping said station* show's KC is not in the big league, it shows that the operator of that channel through Cumulus Media Networks want money, money and money.....looks like i will go back to listening to music on my phone playing through the stereo.

  3. Are you freakin' kidding me! How many sports stations radio/ tv do we need? The chiefs suck everyone! Hello! They have for years and don't even get me started on the Royals! For once we get a real alternative station and corporate America has to screw something else up. It's NOT hat people want, it's what they want. Why couldn't they have just started another FM station, why take over something good? My friends and I talked about the comedy station all the time. I guarantee, no one will be talking about Another sports network/station! Such a big disappointment.

  4. This new sports radio is a big joke, we have enough of them. What the people want is to relax and have a little laugh I listened to 24/7 comedy every day, get rid of this crap and bring back the funny

  5. I agree completely! Already too many stations in the area that broadcast sports talk all the time, when there isn't even anything worth talking about. The comedy station was never turned off in my truck, unless I was leaving the broadcast area on holiday trips to the in-laws. Now there are not laughs, just more ignorant people acting as if sports is the only thing worth talking about. I have plenty of that around me in my day to day, now my funny escape from that hell has been replaced with even more crap only morons care about. Bring back the Funny, Cumulus, and quit jumping on the greedy bandwagon.

  6. I have to throw in my two cents as well. why not take over one the many shitty music stations and leave the one comedy station alone. AM radio is dead. I get it but there were many other stations that no one would have missed. this just shows why Kansas City has the worst radio choices. you can get pop, light pop, R&B pop or "safe for work, nobody likes it, but it is not so offensive that anyone asks to turn it off" (basically just crap between commercials)

  7. I used to listen to listen to 24/7 comedy every night in Kansas City; something more creative and intelligent than more sports radio in the Midwest US. When 24/7 comedy left the air I was deeply saddened. Why ruin a good thing for KCMO which could really use something unique and sophisticated.
